PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Back to the Basics

Sometimes in education we are "data rich yet information poor." Mountains of complex data can make it challenging to answer the key question: is the intervention working? In this session educators will learn a "back to basics" approach to data collection that simplifies the process yet still gives your team clear direction on next steps for the student. Participants will walk away knowing when to use what kind of data sheet, and feel empowered to collect accurate, meaningful data efficiently.

In this session, participants will...

  • Learn the difference between common behavior measurement strategies, including frequency, duration, ratio, interval, and momentary time sampling

  • Learn to match specific behaviors to specific measurement strategies ("Okay, he's aggressive several times a day in short but intense bursts. How should I measure that?")

  • Become efficient with data collection by prioritizing what matters and letting go of what doesn't. This is a great session for taking things OFF the plate!
